href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cytoskeleton\"><strong>cytoskeleton<\/strong><\/a> rearrangement with a consequent enhancement of intestinal permeability.<\/p><p>Larazotide is a competitive octapeptide\u2002antagonist, competitively and reversibly binds to zonulin receptors on the luminal surface of epithelial cells, thereby blocking this cascade signaling process, and maintains barrier homeostasis.<\/p><p>A landmark Phase IIb clinical\u2002trial included 342 patients with continued symptoms in the setting of a GFD.<\/p><p>A dose of 0.5 mg three times daily was shown to be effective and superior to placebo in terms of reduction of gastrointestinal\u2002symptoms with an acceptable safety and tolerability profile prior to further study.<\/p><h5>4.Antiviral Properties<\/h5><p>Apart from its application in intestinal <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inflammation\"><strong>inflammation<\/strong><\/a>, Larazotide has marked in vitro antiviral efficacy\u2002against VZV.<\/p><p>This discovery extends its therapeutic potential and indicates diverse mechanisms of action may\u2002be operative.<\/p><p>The in vitro evidence suggests\u2002that Larazotide inhibits the replication of VZV OKA and 07-1 strains with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/EC50\"><strong>EC\u2085\u2080<\/strong><\/a> of 44.14 \u03bcM and 59.06 \u03bcM, respectively.<\/p><p>This level of\u2002activity is moderate for an antiviral agent.<\/p><p>However, as the activity of Larazotide is localized with a relatively large <a
