Hexapeptide-10, or more formally referred to as SIKVAV/Serilesine, is the smallest functional unit precisely isolated from the globular domain of the laminin α1 chain. Exceptionally high biological activity is a defining characteristic of this peptide.

Early studies have shown greater cell adhesion-promoting and, to a large extent, axonal growth-stimulating capabilities when compared to intact laminin. Specific recognition and subsequent activation of various integrins and other surface receptors is another key property; cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival all follow as direct consequences.

1.Skin Repair and Homeostasis Regulation

Extensive grafting or surface modification of biomaterials with Hexapeptide-10 allows for the induction of stem cell differentiation, fibroblast/endothelial cell proliferation and directed migration – thereby accelerating skin wound healing.

Precise regulation of keratinocyte proliferation-differentiation balance is what sets it apart; excessive basal layer epidermal proliferation is moderated, promoting orderly division of the stratum corneum.

Skin structural strength and overall integrity are improved, texture being a primary concern. Neural signaling pathways are also modulated, reducing skin’s sensitivity to external stimuli; sensitive skin in particular benefits from all of the above.

2.Regulating keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation to maintain skin homeostasis

Hexapeptide-10 directly acts on epidermal cells, balancing their proliferation and subsequent differentiation.

Inhibiting irregular differentiation and uncontrolled division within the basal layer, it upregulates the gene expression of terminal differentiation-associated proteins.
